We like to think of our four-legged friends as family members, so why not prepare healthy options for them, too? On this page we will offer some suggestions and recipes for healthy options to keep those pets around a good long time. We hope you'll take advantage of these things! Ossa's Chicken, Yam and Kale Stew - 1 cup = 80 calories
Recipe is for a 6-quart crock pot and makes 24 cups
Ingredients
2 Boneless, skinless chicken breasts
3 Small to medium yams
4 Carrots
1 cup of fresh Baby Spinach
1 cup of fresh Kale - chopped
1 cup of Pearl Barley (dry)
1 pound of frozen peas
4 cups of No Sodium Chicken Broth*
1 tablespoon of dried Parsely
Directions
Place thawed chicken breasts on the bottom of a crock pot.
Cube yams and carrots, place on top and around the chicken.
Add 2 cups of No Sodium Chicken Broth and cook on high for 3-hours.
Using prongs, chicken should easily shred at this point. Stir well to combine the now cooked and shredded chicken with the yams and carrots.
Add the barley and stir. Add the spinach, kale, and peas and stir.
Add the last 2 cups of No Sodium Chicken Broth and stir well.
Cook on low for 4 hours - stir once an hour if you can.
Storage
Store in freezer containers. Keep 1 week's worth of meals in the refrigerator and freeze the rest in week's-worth servings.

*We use Herb Ox No Sodium Chicken Bouillon packets
If you have a small dog, just put stew through a food processor to create more of an 'canned food' consistency.
